Is your happiness really dependent on results?
For most people, happiness and success are a function of the results they achieve. Their lives are dedicated to achieving results. The source of that almost obsessive focus on results is not hard to find. Virtually from the moment we are born, our parents stress the importance of results. When we do what they want us to do, we hear: “Good boy!” or “Good girl!” When we finish all our food, we hear: “Good for you; you ate all your food!” As we get older we hear: “Good job!” when we do our errands or clean our room. (Obviously there [...]
A simple way to eliminate obstacles
Jeannie, a former client, wanted to take a vacation. She and her husband Robert had dreamed about this vacation for years, but every time they thought of a place they would really like to visit, they encountered an obstacle: “We really want to go away to a really nice place, but we can’t afford it.” Patrick, another client, wanted to make more money to do various things for his wife and children, but his obstacle had been: “There are so many things I really want to do for my family, but I don’t have the skills necessary to increase my [...]
You need unreasonable goals
How do we usually create a goal, personal or business? We take a look at what we’ve been able to do in the past and then either shoot for the same result or add a reasonable amount to it (like a 20% increase) and make that our goal. If we have a good strategy and the circumstances haven’t changed very much, we have a good chance to reaching our new goal. If you are satisfied with incremental improvements, this strategy might work, unless the circumstances have changed (which, in today’s world, is very likely). But what can you do if [...]
Joe Vitale and I discuss the Law of Attraction
“What is your understanding of the Law of Attraction?” I asked Joe Vitale. He has become a good friend who I really love and admire. He and his wife Nerissa had traveled from their home in Texas to visit my wife Shelly and me for the weekend. Over dinner one night we talked about a wide variety of topics, including Internet marketing, spirituality, and relationships. I asked this specific question because I knew that Joe had written extensively on the Law of Attraction (LOA) and I wanted to hear his thoughts. Over the years I have gone from totally believing [...]
What I just learned will transform my life … and yours
I’m writing this from New Mexico just before I leave my bi-annual meeting of the Transformational Leadership Council (TLC). Jack Canfield, the co-author of the Chicken Soup books, created this organization for transformational leaders (workshop leaders, authors, owners of organizations dedicated to transformation, etc.) such as John Gray, New York Times best-selling authors Marci Shimoff and Lisa Nichols, Rev. Michael Beckwith, and about 100 more. It is a place where people who have committed their lives to empowering others get supported and nourished. I am honored to have been a founding member about five years ago. The two five-day meetings [...]
What do you want a lot of that will hurt you when you get it?
What do you desperately desire, that the more you get, the harder it will be to achieve your goals in life? Answers. Let me explain. It seems that nothing would make most of us happier than getting the answer to our questions, such as how to improve our relationships, how to make more money, and how to get anything else we want in life. But answers are a type of belief. They are a solution to a problem, the way to do or get something. And like all beliefs, answers are “a truth,” not “the truth.” Like all beliefs, answers [...]
