A few months ago I asked people on our mailing list which beliefs they thought were keeping them from becoming wealthy.  The top five were:

•    You have to work hard to make money.
•    I’m not deserving.
•    I’ll never have enough money. /There is never enough money.
•    Money is a struggle.
•    Life is difficult.

If you have any doubt about the impact of beliefs on your ability to earn and retain money, ask yourself this question:  Imagine someone having these five beliefs.  Then ask yourself:  Do you think such a person is likely to be wealthy? … Do you think Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, or any other really wealthy person has these beliefs?

Here’s another way to demonstrate the power of beliefs to interfere with your ability to make money and accumulate wealth.  Think back to the last book you read or the last workshop you took that told you exactly what you needed to do to make huge sums of money.  You learned what actions you needed to take, didn’t you?  Now answer this question: Did you do what you learned to do … on a consistent basis? For most people the answer is “no.”

Why People Don’t Use the Expensive Courses They Buy

In fact, as amazing as it might seem, people who sell courses that promise to help you make money report that many of the thousand dollar and up courses that are purchased at workshops are never even opened when the buyers get them home.  Moreover, the free email support that accompanies many of these courses is rarely used.

The only way to make sense of these astonishing facts is to remember that knowing what to do is useless if you have beliefs in the way of acting on that knowledge.

•    If you believe you have to work hard to make money, it just might not be worth the effort.
•    If you believe you aren’t a deserving person, you would likely sabotage any effort you make to become financially successful.
•    If you believe I’ll never have enough money, then what’s the point of trying?
•    If you believe money is a struggle, your life becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
•    And if you believe life is difficult, then you will create a life that is difficult in most respects, including a lack of money.

Anne Lieberman, ranked among the country’s top 100 financial advisors just a few years ago, recently pointed out:  “Many people do not have a workable relationship with money.  When they don’t, it shows up in one or more of three realms: earning, spending and saving/investing.”

Wealth Can Elude You For Many Reasons

In other words, wealth can elude you because you don’t ask for the money you deserve or do what you know you should do to earn it, because you spend money you don’t have and get into debt unnecessarily, and/or because you don’t save or invest wisely.  Limiting beliefs can cause all three of these inappropriate behaviors.

We can guarantee that eliminating the relevant beliefs will change your behavior and feelings. But having wealth involves much more than beliefs, although getting rid of crippling money beliefs is certainly a precondition.

In order to insure financial success, it would be useful to have, in additional to the absence of limiting money beliefs, a positive attitude about earning and having money, an effective strategy for getting it, and then the commitment to fully implement your strategy.

For those who tried everything but yet no change in your financial status, you may check in, are you still having a scarcity mindset? Chasing of money creates scarce, and scarce creates lack, therefore still lack of money. When I let go of the money goal and take lots of action on creating values for others, the results improve for me. When I just go with the flow (still with a plan on hand) and receive what the universe gives, amazing things do happen. Of course, it doesn’t come in the form of money, but it comes in the form of opportunities.

Still I have to take action to grab those opportunities and convert them into money.

    Hi Richard,
Thanks for the advice, I will look into the website for sure. I hope I didn’t come across as shallow???? :(

I actually have found a passion in life, my partner & I are equally passionate about it, and hope to both quit our awesome (yet boring jobs) and work for ourselves, together. Don’t have the finances for it yet, but after watching “the secret” and reading many, many other books on the topic, I did learn to stop the stress. And I was a “massive” worrier!!! It reached me on a physical level!

Like I said, I have come through a lot of “struggle”, I have made peace with my lot and have acceptance for the strength I got from it all, but my one “trigger’ for stress, is not being able to pay the bills on time!!! I found it embarrassing & humiliating to have to deal with it all. I’ve been at the checkout buying groceries, and had to return stuff due to insufficient funds! Nothing hurts you more as a parent then ‘feeling’ you are not a good provider! That right there is fear of failure!!!

But your right, listening is a gift, as is giving. I’m a nurturer and I find I am quiet a good listener and so am lucky enough to have many close relationships, and have even rebuilt the poor ones I had with my parents, which I regard as an achievement.

I have been thinking though, I came from a broken home, and I think I have an “image” of what a provider “should” be, based on what I didn’t have, if that makes sense? And I think if I’m not living up to that, financially (as the non financial boxes have prtty much been ticked off) then I am a failure! I am really hard on myself, and I think that might be from being “not enough” as a child.
Wow, think I just had a breakthrough!?

Thanks again for your advise Richard, I appreciate it, and will certainly include it in my lessons. I wish you all the best with your business also ;)

    Hi Chantal
I feel your pain but to help you need to remove the barriers which is to remove the self esteem beliefs which means all of the 19 beliefs and 4 conditionings in the confidence program. then learn the skills and attain the knowledge in something yr passionate about. You need to have a purpose in life. Mine is helping people solve their problems. I find that when I ask ” how can I solve people’s problems today?” you take the attention off yourself and the anixety dissipates. there is a saying when you help people get what they want, naturally you get what you want. I recommend you do the program because it removes the barriers and then learn the skills. For me I used naturalselling.com to learn how to communicate and listen to people. Listening equals success. Did you know the average person only listens 10% of the time. the rest is made up thinking what to say and waiting for a gap in the conversation to speak. Listening is the greastest gift you can give anyone!! Listening and questions builds great relationships.

I find when you feel resistance to money and success you have to just try and surrender and relax. Try reading Deepak Chopra Laws of success. One of the laws is too listen. good luck! Regards Rich

    Hi Morty,
On the topic of money, I too am “broke as hell” as well as having the “debts up to my eye balls”. I have ‘nearly’ lost my home many times, and due to my partners ex-wife getting her “cut” of our money 1st while we were struggling, we then made some risky investments that we had to bail on, which took our situation from Bad to worse!

I grew up around a very negative & critical family, although I can’t ever remember having anyone discuss money around me. I did feel I was a disappointment, no matter what I did! And I used to be afraid of mistakes & failure, but I have just done the mistakes and failure limiting belief session.

I am juggling so many debts, I should join the circus! Do you think I have any limiting beliefs contributing? I used to stress out a lot over not being able to pay my debts, and having no savings, I have struggled a lot in life from young, and now have been struggling with money. Could seeing myself “struggling” through life be effecting my finances??? I would love to be financially secure for my kids especially. I’m good at my job, I love money (when I have any) I work hard, I’m smart, I think outside the square, I’m a good Mum, My relationships are good, but every time I open my wallet, dust flies out!!! I’m sick of being broker then broke! And I would love to move out of “Struggle Street”…

Can you please point me in the right direction Morty?

Im doing Herbalife its a network marketing company and I have been taking massive action since doing your program. I have found it alot easier to do my business, approaching and connecting with strangers has been alot more effective. I feel nothing when someone rejects me. when I think Of getting what I want I think that it feels decades away. I feel I have to get my business to a good level before I can get the ideal relationship. I struggle in the attracting the right woman into my life. I felt confused after doing the program because I felt so happy and yet I m still broke. your program gave me the peace I really wanted. I guess some people are very wealthy and dont have the peace. I know its upto me to go inside and dig the other beliefs out so i can attract the right relationship and at least earn a full time wage from my business. I value my freedom and love working for me.

I have done the 5 abundance beliefs and not much has changed. it was 6-7 weeks ago when I did the program and did it twice through. I wondering if there is another belief thats getting in the way. I have done the 19 limiting beliefs program plus the 4 conditionings and I must say its the best thing I have ever done. I am more at peace, Things dont get to me like they used too. I feel peace, joy and feel confident however I still arent not getting the results i wanted. so is it possible that there is another belief getting in the way for attracting success and money? thanks anyway for tools!

    • Morty Lefkoe April 3, 2011 at 2:06 pm - Reply

      Hi Richard,

My experience is that beliefs can serve as barriers to getting what you want, so eliminating the beliefs can remove the barriers.

However, getting rid of beliefs does not guarantee that you will achieve what you want. That also involves knowledge, skills, taking advantage of opportunities as they arise, and possibly some other beliefs that are still barriers.

When you think about getting what you want, what thoughts do you have? That can give you an indication of possible additional beliefs that might still be in the way.

      Love, Morty

I must tell you, however, that your negative beliefs about yourself and life are just as relevant to removing the barriers to making money. Check out the Natural Confidence package: http://recreateyourlife.com/naturalconfidence.

We have to de-condition ourselves from all of the limiting beliefs we learned as a child. A lot of these have to with issues of self worth and receiving abundance. It makes it difficult to receive abundance from the universe when it is being blocked by limiting beliefs.

my mum and dad taught me life is difficult, money is struggle and you have to work hard to earn money. I saw it in their behaviour and heard it in their lauguage and defintely saw it in their results. there could have had a positive attitude about earning money either if they had the belief that money is struggle. Most of their intentions come from limitations so no wonder they felt that life was hard. if my dad was Donald Trump or Richard Branson then Im sure that my experience would be very much different than today. so after removing ‘im not good enough’ belief 2 days ago I now want to remove these beliefs and many others around money that are also affecting me having a hard to attract a decent realtionship. is there a link here between money and creating a relationship? if i have limiting beliefs about money and women need security then in my mind I find it difficult to attract my ideal woman. Now if 4 of my friends came round to watch me interacting with mum and dad on a movie screen what would they say would really happened.
They would say that your mum and dad loved you very much and wanted the best for me but their money beliefs were not true, because clearly you see other peoples experiences are different, because they have positive beliefs about money. Such as money flows easily into my life, money loves me, i attract money easily everyday. so your mum and dad had the wrong beliefs. Am I doing this right or do I need to do this differently? I feel on some level the pain when i say out loud ‘Money is a struggle!’

I’m poor as hell, and quite frankly, that’s the way I expect it to be for the majority of my life, however, I work hard, I feel my work is deserving to be put forth to make change or enhance another persons venture, I believe can be difficult, it can also be mind numbingly easy.

So I am not sure how this plays into wealth… I think the big kicker is just understanding that what you want to do shouldn’t necessarily lay in material objects or wealth, but rather in rewarding yourself and others around you.

If your belief system tells you that is only possible with money. Well then…

If anything money is the root cause of all pain and suffering… The accumulation of it rather than the lack of it. That’s the way I see it.

    • admin April 11, 2010 at 8:59 am - Reply

      Hi James,

Thanks for taking the time to write after reading my post.

I notice you describe your current state (“I’m poor as hell”) and then you go on to list a few of the beliefs that contribute to that state: “That’s the way I expect it to be for the majority of my life.” “Money is the root cause of all pain and suffering.” “The accumulation of money is the root cause of all pain and suffering.”

Money is not all there is to life, far from it. But our beliefs seem to manifest in our life and your beliefs (at least the ones you stated and there probably are other similar ones) manifest as your reality.

If that’s OK with you, it’s OK with me. But if you want to change your life, you’re going to have to change the beliefs that are manifesting in your life.

      Regards, Morty

Hello, I found you through a ConsciousOne email. I don’t always open and read them, but I did this one- about the free belief elimination and I found it to be extremely helpful. I also downloaded the book and read it. So I am checking your website and came across the money beliefs as – my problem is money or unability to keep it. Truly, my issue is -over-drawing my bank account almost every week and up to $300.00 at a time! I have done this for years and I promise to stop this. Years ago, I even closed my checking account and had savings account – but it was extremely time consuming and inconvenient going to the bank and paying my bills by money order. Of course if it saves me money, then I should deal with it- but I do have this issue that I would love to resolve. My credit is terrible, I have filed bankruptcy twice in my life, bills are not paid on time- electric has been turned off before. And the thing is- I got a different job 3 years ago making TWICE as much money as I did before- doing less work and I am still in this situation.
I have borrowed thousands from my 401k to pay off bills and say- now things will be different- and then 3 months later I am overdrawn again.
God- this is killing me even to look at what I have written so far! It is like facing this- man am I messed up!

im just learning this stuff and its interesting to me that we all have different problems and its easy to give someone advice on their problem. your problem is spending money and it isnt earning money because you seem to attract money well. my problem is earning money, if you cant earn money you cant spend it either. if i had the choice i would have yr problem than my problem because at least you have the money to enjoy yourself. but I understand that you are freaking out with yr behaviour. you just got to keep working on yrself and understanding this lefkoe method. because i have felt much better and you can as well. please answer this what did your mum and dad used to say about money? what did they say about saving money? my mum and dad told me that if you cant afford it they dont have it. but they also said life is difficult and money is struggle. then when i grow up i want things and want to go out with friends, holidays and cars and buy my house. but now I have thousands of debt and about to lose my house. so whats going on here of course beliefs in the background that are making my life hell. Morty Lefkoe please come round to my house this afternoon and I make a cup of tea and we can have a chat. Make sure you sort your problem and never give up because you can feel free. Im never giving up until I learn the lefkoe method backwards. all the best!

I found your website through reading a Joe Vitale book and have done the your free belief elimination exercise, I thought this was amazing as I have read endless self help books, am a great believer in the Law of Attraction (through the secret) and knew I was stuck with negative beliefs but couldn’t seem to change them until now (I even tried hypnosis and EFT) I think the Lefkoe Method will be life changing for me and can feel the difference already so thankyou for that. My dilema is that I know I have limiting beliefs about money but unfortunately I have been unemployed for a year and am struggling to pay my bills etc. I would love any advice you could give me to get out of these beliefs, obviously I would buy your Bust your money Beliefs package if I could afford it but I seem to be in a catch 22 situation at the moment. I would be grateful for some help. With Kindest Regards

    Hi Kay,

I’m thrilled that you are noticing changes in your life. That’s why we do what we do.

Re: Weight. This is the most complicated problem we get presented with. Actually as you note, it is several different problems rolled into one. And everyone is very different. So at this point we cannot turn it into a program but can only work with clients one-on-one. And it involves more beliefs and takes longer than almost any other problem. SOrry I don’t have better news for you.

    Regards, Morty

I’ve done a number of your belief processes and they DO work. My life hasn’t changed dramatically overnight but I am definitely a different person and moving in a better, happier, more confident direction. It’s subtle at first but I’m noticing it more and more.

This is not directly related to the wealth package above (so you may want to remove it), but: When are you going to do a belief package on weight issues? For example, I overeat as a habit and when I’m stressed out (or bored, or tired, or procrastinating, or avoiding something else that scares me, etc). I probably learned it from my Mom, who lived through the depression (her family lost everything and nearly starved). Hormone fluctuations (monthly or life change) don’t help, either. For many women especially, food is a comfort and provides instant pleasure. And once you eat too much cake, it’s too late to stop because the damage is done. Also, many people now days don’t seem to understand the difference between physical hunger and “wanting” to eat – how many times have you heard someone say, “I’m always hungry!” ? I think this could be a blockbuster for your business and a great help to others.

You know I have read and tried everything I could get my hands on for the last 6 months,Law of attraction,EFT, NLP’s,hypnosis, subliminals, affirmations…….and so far not a single thing has changed in my life. I just wish I could read 1 thing that tells it like it really is, and that is that is impossible unless your perfect or something. It all says oh it’s so easy all you have to do is this, this , and this, but still nothing happens. Why can’t you people just tell the truth, that this is NOT easy and you can try all you want but get nowhere. I have given it all I have and have changed my thoughts, beliefs, and vibration, and still nothing but the same old SH**. Why don’t you all stop blowing smoke up our butts and getting us to spend money on this and that, that all promise that things will change, and really tell it like it is.
