Part 1 of 4: The Two Equations That Determine Whether You Succeed Or Fail

Did you know that there are two equations that determine whether you succeed or fail?  I call the first one, the failure equation.  And the second one I call, (you guessed it) the success equation.

How can we boil down success or failure into simple equations?  And how can understanding these simple equations lead to lasting change in your life?  I’ll answer these questions for you today.

What is the failure equation?

Information + Motivation = Change. (I+M=C)

That’s the failure equation.

If I have enough information about why I need to do something (I) and if I have enough motivation to do it (M), I’ll be able to change my behavior (C) and get it done.

But in reality, it doesn’t work.  Here’s an example.

John wants to get in shape.  His doctor tells him he needs to exercise to keep his blood pressure under control and to avoid heart disease.  Everyday he looks in the mirror and notices the bulge around his belly getting just a little bit bigger.  And he really misses the energy he used to have when he was in better shape.

Every New Year’s Eve he decides that he will start hitting the gym to get into shape.

And every year he starts with a bang, hitting the gym three times a week.  Then it’s two times.  Then it’s once.  Then not at all.

Why does this keep happening to John and thousands of others each year?

John had all the information he needed about getting in shape and why it’s good for him.

He knows it’s good for his health and gives him energy.

John sure felt motivated on January 1st.

But somehow his motivation petered out.

What happened?

There’s a hidden variable that John has not recognized.

John has some beliefs that keep him from STAYING motivated.

Beliefs like: Exercise is a drag. It’s painful to exercise.  Exercise takes up too much time.

When he’s just starting out these beliefs seem to be drowned out for a while by a powerful feeling of motivation.  But eventually he can’t suppress them any longer.

And they eventually win.

So here’s John’s failure equation: Information + Motivation + Limiting Beliefs DOES NOT equal Change.

I+M+LB (does not) = Change

So how can we help John make lasting changes?

We remove the hidden element from the equation.  We subtract LB (Limiting Beliefs).

When John gets rid of his beliefs, he can start his exercise program without needing a huge motivational boost to overcome negativity.

He can exercise and keep on exercising.

And this is not just theoretical.

One client named Joe Vitale had the same problem as John: negative beliefs about exercise.

I helped him get rid of those beliefs and he describes the results on video at the link below:

In the video Joe says that before unlearning his limiting beliefs with Morty….

“Working out was whipping myself to make it happen.”

And after…

‘To my amazement we uncovered operating beliefs I wasn’t aware were there.

Because of

[this] I’m able to lose weight and stay in shape and be happier and healthier than before.’

This shows that when you change your beliefs you change your thoughts, feelings and behavior.  You change your life and how you live it.

Now that you know how limiting beliefs can keep information and motivation from producing results, you can put your efforts into unlearning those limiting beliefs, which will really make a big difference for you.

However, there’s a big mistake that most people make when trying to unlearn beliefs.

If you are making this mistake, it can keep you from making the lasting changes you so badly desire.
